Chiropractors hold at least 7 years of post-secondary education, with over 4500 hours of academic and clinical education in courses such as biochemistry, neurology, anatomy, biomechanics, microbiology, radiology, exercise physiology, and rehabilitation. Chiropractors also utilize other treatment modalities such as:

Active Release Technique
ART® is a manual, hands-on therapy designed specifically to find scars in damaged tissue and release the adhesions that result. Adhesions are produced in acute injuries, repetitive injuries or simply when a muscle is under chronic tension and does not get enough oxygen (hypoxia). These adhesions act like tiny dabs of glue sticking to muscle fibres and between connective tissues, preventing the normal sliding movements that normally occur between healthy tissue. Adhesions limit muscle or joint movement and can create abnormal or painful motion. Adhesions to a nerve can cause numbness, tingling or radiating pain, as with carpal tunnel syndrome or the radiating leg pain of sciatica.

Instrumented Assisted Soft Tissue Management
IASTM is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.
Originally developed by athletes, IASTM is an interdisciplinary treatment used by more than 18,000 clinicians worldwide — including physical and occupational therapists, hand therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers.

Registered Massage Therapy is the manual manipulation of the soft tissues of the body (muscle, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments). General techniques include applying fixed or movable pressures, holding, and/or initiating movement of or to the body. Massage is known to improve the circulation and flow of blood and lymph, reduce muscular tension or flaccidity, affect the nervous system through stimulation or sedation, and enhance tissue healing. Within massage therapy itself, there are several different modalities that address adhesions in the fascia surrounding and between layers of muscle, bone, tendons, ligaments and joint capsules. They include:

Deep Tissue
A slow and deep modality of massage that focuses on realigning the deep layers of muscle and connective tissue. This type of massage can be very beneficial for releasing chronic muscle tension.

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) and Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are highly irritable points that can refer pain locally or to other areas of the body. These techniques are a specialized form of deep tissue massage that utilizes static pressure to release these tender areas of strain in the muscle.

Myofascial Release
Fascia is a dense, tough tissue that surrounds and covers all of your muscles. Myofascial release involves applying prolonged pressure into the connective tissue with the goal of enabling the muscles to slide over each other effortlessly, eliminating pain and restoring proper mobility.

Joint Mobilization
Joint mobility can become limited due to injury, overuse, aging, and contracted muscles, leaving it harder to move efficiently and without pain. Joint mobilization is a passive massage technique performed by RMTs to reduce pain and restore normal range of motion in affected areas.

Craniosacral Therapy and Muscle Energy Technique
These treatments utilize the body’s nervous system through very gentle techniques. Muscle energy uses active muscle contractions to stretch and release restricted muscles helping to relieve chronic pain and tension. Craniosacral therapy helps to restore balance to the nervous system through releasing areas of tension and holding patterns while also helping to reduce other symptoms such as anxiety and sleeping problems.

My name is Sandra and I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. I am a huge proponent of intuitive eating and health at every size, and the learning I’ve done in these areas has guided my values and given me direction towards the kind of practitioner I want to become. I am a personal trainer and have my specialization in perinatal fitness (before, during, and after pregnancy), and I believe in accessibility and inclusivity when it comes to sweat sessions. I am intrigued with the intersections between movement and nutrition, and there’s a big gap there that needs to be filled. I absolutely love getting to know people and being able to share the expertise I have in these areas, and I find that everyone can benefit from one or all the 10 pillars of intuitive eating – not all of them are about food… surprise. I still struggle some days with body image and saying no to diet culture, and it’s not something that you can conquer in one month or even one year, I’ve been working on my own personal struggles in these areas since I was in middle school. My personal experiences have a huge impact on the way I want to practice in the future and the kinds of messages I want to spread to others. I like to approach body image from a place of body neutrality and weight inclusivity. Through my own personal experience as well as my education, I help women find peace with food, movement, and their bodies. I help incorporate mindful movement and gentle nutrition strategies that help women get and stay well, in a way that is enjoyable and doable long term. I approach health with a preventative and sustainable lens, and while encouraging joyful movement and taking steps away from diet culture, ultimately, I am your support to lean on.

Growing up in small town Alberta, sports kept Emily busy from a young age through to her University career. Hockey, ringette, field hockey, volleyball, and track and field were just a few of the sports through which she found her appreciation for the human body and how it moves, heals, and performs. She is a firm believer that “movement is medicine” and that finding the right movement prescription for every individual has countless benefits on physical and mental wellbeing. Her special interest in musculoskeletal rehabilitation was sparked through her work supporting individuals with acquired traumatic brain injury at Connect Communities in Lake Country.
